Course Syllabus

Dietary inflammation Is quite common in the world today, but its effects on the body are just beginning to be understood. Inflammation being a mechanism of disease such as cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease has been a major insight of this decade. The effects on neurodegenerative disorders, mood, and anxiety disorders as well as schizophrenia have been areas of intense study. Activation of inflammatory cytokines and mobilization of immune cells have been shown to alter the brain and human behavior.

This has been known for quite some time, but mechanistically we are in the beginning stages of understanding. Only within the last five years or so have we discovered the connection between our lymphatic system and the brain (Lymphatic vessels first discovered in mice by Drs. Antoine and Jonathan Kipnis of the university of Virginia school of medicine In 2014) and since then we have strived for a better understanding into how exactly it is caused, which populations are at the most risk, and how we can lift someone out of a state of dietary inflammation.

1.  What is dietary inflammation?
2.  How is it caused?
3.  What are its effects?
4.  How do we get rid of it?
